President of Iran Hassan Rouhani said the entire region would benefit from development of a railway project linking Iran with Georgia via Azerbaijan, according to a press release on the Iranian President’s website.

Construction of the Qazvin-Rasht-Anzali-Astara Railway is underway to link Iran with Azerbaijan and further with Russia and Georgia.

Speaking at a meeting with newly appointed Georgian ambassador to Tehran, Ioseb Chakhvashvili, who presented his credentials to the Iranian President, Rouhani reiterated readiness “to expand relations” with Georgia, according to a press release by the Iranian President’s office.
